5 Ways To Establish A Deeper Connection With Your Clients
Daniel sat down after a busy week of health coaching to look back at what he did well and what he could have done better.
He liked to do this often, and with his growing business and busy schedule, he figured now it was more important than ever.
He was elated that his client base continued to grow so rapidly, but he sometimes had trouble staying in the moment with each and every client on his schedule.
Daniel thought a minute and decided that he needed to prioritize connecting with each client so they could have a comfortable, productive session.
At ITN, we are all about personalization and the need to personalize each client’s experience based on their individual situation and needs, so Daniel is definitely on the right track!
Here are 5 easy ways to establish a deeper connection with your client no matter what their situation is and why it’s so important to do so!
5 WAYS TO ESTABLISH A DEEPER CONNECTION WITH YOUR CLIENTS
1. CREATE A COMFORTABLE SPACE
It’s important to choose or create a meeting space that is quiet, comfortable, and inviting for your client. The more physically comfortable they feel, the more likely they are to feel emotionally comfortable opening up to you!
If you don’t have a good office space in your home for this, try meeting in a hotel lobby or even a park. Avoid coffee shops as they are too noisy and action-packed.
Find a space away from others so your client feels like they can confide in you.
This may sound obvious, but it’s so important to continue to work on your listening skills. Show your client that you are actively listening and engaging to not only what they’re saying, but what they’re feeling and might be implying as well.
Repeat what they say back to them in your own words, and show them you’re listening and truly hear their thoughts, feelings, and concerns.
3. VALIDATE THEM
Validate your client as they’re opening up to you! Share your own personal, vulnerable examples if you feel it makes sense so they can enter your personal world.
If you do this they might be more likely to let you in as well, but be careful not to make it all about you!
4. HIGHLIGHT THEIR STRENGTHS
Make sure you are reaffirming their strengths as they explain their thoughts and concerns to you. Show them how strong they are, how hard their situation must be, and how courageous they must be for facing that particular challenge.
5. MAKE THEM FEEL LIKE THEY ARE YOUR ONLY CLIENT
Don’t glance over at the clock while you’re in the middle of a session. Don’t check your phone or email. Turn off all distractions, and focus on the client you are with.
Make sure you pour all your attention into your client so they feel like they are your only client and your primary focus.
And make sure you tell your client to unplug as well! It can be easy to take a call or check a text message out of habit, but when you value each other’s time and presence, it’s amazing what you will be able to overcome in a single session!
TO WRAP IT UP
Developing strong connections with your clients will help them open up and share more intimate details with you which will ultimately help you help them!
You will be able to hold your client more accountable to coaching sessions and the nutrition and health plans you co-create, and you will better show your client that you are there for them and that they aren’t another checkbox on your to-do list!
When you develop these deep connections, you grow stronger as a health coach and learn what to listen for on many levels which ultimately helps you succeed in your business!
