Manage Your Time Like A Millionaire With These 10 Rules

Manage Your Time Like A Millionaire With These 10 Rules

Marcy had just started her new health coaching business and was a little overwhelmed with the many things she needed to do each day.

Not only was she a one-man-show when it came to generating new clients, scheduling appointments, responding to emails, and of course leading her actual coaching sessions, but she also had her new website to worry about alongside all her new business and marketing needs!

She was feeling as if there just wasn’t enough time in the day for her to get everything accomplished and keep her sanity. Afterall, she wanted to grow her business and become successful, not lose her mind!

“It has to be possible,” thought Marcy. “There are hugely successful entrepreneurs out there who started out like me… but how?”

“How do millionaires manage their time?” she wondered. “Do they know something the rest of us don’t? Is there any way to add more than 24 hours to a day?”

We all know that time management is the key to productivity, organization, and ultimately success, but it seems so much easier said than done.

Sure, you have an idea of when you focus most clearly, tackle big projects most efficiently, and can get the little things accomplished, but rarely does your day go as planned.

With interruptive phone calls, piles of emails, and new tasks popping up daily, how are you supposed to stick to your ‘schedule’ and best manage your time?

It’s not easy, but by following these 10 simple rules to better manage your time, energy, and task lists (like millionaires do), you’ll find yourself transforming time into success.

MANAGE YOUR TIME LIKE A MILLIONAIRE WITH THESE 10 RULES

1. START THE NIGHT BEFORE

Plan and prioritize your day ahead of time. Make a list the night before or at the end of the workday so you know exactly what you’re going to start on when you begin work.

2. PRIORITIZE YOUR LIST AND LET GO OF 1 THING A DAY

Make a point to do the most important things on your to-do list first, even if they are your least favorite tasks, and let go of or delegate the little things on your list to someone else.

3. BATCH YOUR TIME

Batch your time and weekdays for optimal productivity. Try scheduling all sessions and consultations on the same day, and plan all your social networking, blogging, and scheduling in a single block of time. By focusing your time on batches of work, you waste less time jumping from one thing to the next throughout your day and manage your time more efficiently.

4. LIMIT DISTRACTIONS

Bill Gates makes a conscious effort to set aside stretches of uninterrupted time to concentrate on his biggest work items.

Make sure to limit disturbances the best you can when you’re tackling your most important projects. Try closing your office door, unplugging your phone, and turning off email. This will help ensure you can focus and get your projects done in a timely, efficient manner.

5. CHECK EMAILS ON A SCHEDULE

Email is said to be one of the biggest productivity-killers during the workday. To better manage your time and energy like millionaire entrepreneur, Kevin Kruse, make a point to check email on a schedule. Aim for two or three time per day, and use your autoresponder.

When you are combing through your inbox, try to keep your time with each email as short as possible. Respond when needed, file away for reference, or add to your to-do list, then mark as complete.

6. HAVE A 5 MINUTE PHONE RULE

Another big interruption is unscheduled phone calls. They’re unavoidable, so you can attack this problem in a couple of ways.

First, try having a 5-minute rule for unscheduled calls. Be polite and brief, get to the point, and get off the phone.

A second option is to simply not answer the phone! Schedule a time to return all unplanned calls when you’re not focusing on your big-ticket items.

7. HAVE A 15 MINUTE PHONE RULE

When a call is scheduled, try making sure both parties have an agenda for the call and stick to that agenda. By keeping these calls focused and on a schedule, 15 minutes may be all you need to get your points across.

8. DON’T DO LUNCH

Avoid taking long lunches or coffee breaks. Often, this time away can interrupt your train of thought and ultimately dampen your productivity. Instead, take short rests and breaks throughout the day when you feel you need them.

9. SET UP SYSTEMS

Technology is your friend! Set up systems to help you manage your time throughout your day. Whether that be automated reminders, calendars, or productivity and project management software, these things can help you keep track of your tasks and manage your time with ease.

10. DELEGATE

Think about your day, your tasks, and your projects. What can you hand off to someone else?
Richard Branson once said, “The art of delegation is one of the key skills any entrepreneur must master.”

You will be most productive by doing the things that you love and want to do rather than the things you feel you have to do. Focus on doing the things that only you can do, and delegate the rest.

IN CONCLUSION

By structuring your workday using these 10 rules, you’re bound to see a noticeable boost in your time management skills, productivity, happiness, and ultimately business success.
