No matter how hard you try to be calm, collected, and centered, it’s inevitable that once in a while, something is going to trigger you.
It could be anything…
…A song that brings up an unpleasant memory from the past.
…A comment that someone makes that catches you off guard and makes you upset or anxious.
…An interaction that leaves you feeling stressed, on edge, and unsettled.
Whatever it is, we all have those certain things that trigger us. When they pop up, it can be hard to focus or think about anything other than how we’re feeling, which can wind up affecting our mental health.
ITN Founder and CEO, Cynthia Garcia, recently shared a reminder of why it’s so important to give yourself permission to feel and process whatever emotions come as a result of these triggers whenever they happen to present themselves.
We felt it was important to share it with you today.
Give Yourself Space and Grace
“To say it’s been a long year is a major understatement.
Many people have had their mental health triggered in ways they didn’t see coming.
It happened to me recently, and it was unexpected and tough.
But in trying to move past it, I realized something, and I want to share it with you.
We’re living in a time where we feel unsure about so many things in the world.
We’re uncertain.
We have mixed emotions about the things going on around us.
That’s why during this time, it’s important to focus on giving yourself two things…
Space and grace.
Give yourself the space to allow yourself to breathe, to feel what you feel, to need what you need, and to not apologize for it.
And give yourself the grace to fill your own needs, and to take the time, energy, and resources to bring whatever it is you need into that moment.
You’re important. Your mental health is important.
You have to take care of it if you’re going to be able to show up for other people around you.
Someone else always needs us, and there’s always something that has to be done or taken care of that just can’t wait.
Remember this – YOU can’t wait.
You don’t deserve to take a backseat to anything in your life.
Whatever you need to be in a good place at any given moment, remember to step back and take some space and grace, and NEVER apologize for it.
Let’s end this year on a high note and promise to be a lot kinder to ourselves as we head into 2021.”
How are you allowing yourself space and grace as we come to the end of this year? Leave us a comment and let us know!
