Ever feel like you need a break from all things connected?
A break from your phone, social media, your computer, your email, online shopping, or whatever your technology of choice is?
Did you know that the average adult spends over 10 hours per day using electronic devices? This number is alarming when you consider how many hours you are actually awake in a day.
Allowing some time to disconnect from technology and truly be present in each moment can benefit you in a variety of ways.
From improving your mood to your relationships to offering you more creativity at work, the benefits of taking some time to disconnect are vast.
Above all, disconnecting allows you some quiet space to go within and deepen your connection with yourself.
Here are six ways to disconnect from technology and reconnect within.
6 WAYS TO DISCONNECT FROM TECHNOLOGY & RECONNECT WITHIN
1. REMEMBER THAT THE WORLD WILL GO ON WITHOUT YOU
We get it! It’s so easy to feel as though nothing can move forward or keep going if you take a break or slow down.
However, the simple truth is that it WILL. Everything that needs your attention is not going to fall back in progress by you taking a deep breath and removing yourself for a set amount of time.
2. REST ASSURED THAT EVERYTHING WILL STILL BE THERE WHEN YOU RETURN
Worried about missing an email, a call, or a potential new client? Guess what, it will all be there waiting and ready for you when you return. Relax into the knowing that you will not miss out on a single thing — so forget that whole FOMO thing!
3. GO EXPLORE NATURE
Mama Nature is one of the best ways for us to recharge. She is full of negative ions that promote good health and help us to rejuvenate.
Take this time outside to gather inspiration, admire her beauty, breathe deeply to refresh the lungs, and send out some gratitude. There is no better way to connect within than a walk in nature.
4. MAKE A DATE WITH A LOVED ONE
Spending time being truly present with loved ones is a great way to recharge and disconnect.
Think of how often you are on your phone around loved ones (we are ALL guilty)! Take this opportunity to have a fulfilling conversation, to notice something new about your loved one, or to try something new together.
5. TURN EVERYTHING OFF AND PUT IT OUT OF SIGHT
If your devices are easily accessible and in your line of sight, it’s going to be too easy to quickly pick them up and just take “one little peek.”
Gather all the devices that might tempt you, turn them off, and place them in a closet while you’re enjoying your time to disconnect. This will ensure you’re not tempted to look at anything and can truly give your brain a break!
A recent study found that when we hear the ding of a text message or email, we get a hit of dopamine which can be mentally exhausting. No wonder we always feel like our brains are turned on!
6. USE THESE TECHNIQUES TO CONNECT WITH YOURSELF
Take this time to connect within and actually listen to your thoughts. Some great tools to help you do so include breathwork, yoga, journaling, and meditating.
