ARE HEALTH COACHES THE SOLUTION TO OBESITY?
One fine day, a few researchers from The Miriam Hospital’s Weight Control and Diabetes Research Center in Providence, R.I., got to thinking!
They had heard all this hype about Health Coaches and saw the growing demand for them. So, they thought they’d conduct a study to see if all the hype was actually worth backing!
These researchers decided to conduct a randomized controlled pilot study to determine if Health Coaches indeed had that magical spice to truly help their clients get results.
HERE’S HOW THE STUDY WENT
The researches had Health Coaches, peer coaches, and mentors work with 44 obese individuals during a behavioral weight-loss program that ran for 24 weeks and had them meeting 12 times throughout those weeks.
Each individual participant was randomly assigned to one of the following: a Health Coach, a peer mentor (a fellow member of the study group), or a mentor (someone who had successfully lost weight).
During the weeks when the groups did not meet, the coaches connected with the individuals to review their calorie intake, their weekly weigh-in, and their activity log.
THE RESULTS
Here’s where things got really groovy!
When the results came in, researches found that the groups who worked with Health Coaches and their peers were able to lose over 9 percent of there body weight.
What’s even better is that over half of the group lost 10 percent or more of their body weight! Insanely cool, right?!
Get ready for the very best part of this all… the participants in this study were able to reduce their risk of obesity-related diseases, such as diabetes and heart disease.

By focusing on behavioral modifications, psychological approaches, spiritual connection, and natural healing approaches, Health Coaches are able to get their client’s results for good!
