The 411 On Water Filtration And Quality

The 411 On Water Filtration

Water, sweet, water!

Am I right to say that there is nothing like a refreshing, cool gulp of water? Yum!

Water is kind of a big deal in the whole “being healthy” thing! Whether you’re trying to lose weight, manage an autoimmune disease, flush toxins, or maintain the best level of health you can, water is absolutely necessary!

So, you’re one of those people who “forgets” to drink water, go grab yourself a cup right now! We’ll wait to move on until you come back!

Okay, now that you have a lovely glass of H20, let’s talk about water specifics!

Did you know that the quality of water is just as important as quantity?

In fact, public drinking water in the US is contaminated with things like microorganisms, disinfectants, disinfectant by-products, inorganic chemicals, organic chemicals, and radionucleotides.

Aside from that, were you aware that over 6 million Americans are drinking water with unsafe levels of harmful chemicals, waste, heavy metals, and even prescription drugs? (Yikes!)

And on an even bigger scale… roughly 783 million people do not have access to clean and safe water worldwide. (It’s sad but true.)

THE 411 ON WATER FILTRATION AND QUALITY

If you do have the luxury of running water and you choose to drink tap water, it is essential to use the right type of filtration system to properly clean the water and make it safe for you and your family to drink.

Let’s talk about different filters and options for ensuring you are enjoying clean water that will promote health and vitality!

Tap Water Filters

TAP WATER FILTERS

REVERSE OSMOSIS FILTERS

A reverse osmosis water filter removes pollutants and impurities by moving your water through a membrane and filters to flush them out.

It contains a sediment filter and a carbon filter and uses water pressure to eliminate toxins.

RO’s are believed to be the best option. The downfalls would include that they tend to be expensive. They are also extremely energy efficient, but not necessarily water efficient.

CARBON FILTERS

(Pro Tip: Never run hot or warm water through these filters!)

GRANULATED CARBON FILTERS

These filters have air spaces between carbon particles to trap bacteria and remove it from your drinking water.

Bacteria can multiply within air spaces. Silver is used in most to kill bacteria and reduce growth!

The concern with using silver is the possibility of ineffectiveness and toxicity. While these filters can be economical, the use is short-lived, and the safety of them is questionable.

SOLID CARBON BLOCK FILTERS

These are known to be very dense, which cleans more water and keeps germs from thriving inside the filter and ending up in your cup!

They are said to be able to trap more toxins than granulated. Just know that these filters are more expensive, but they are definitely more effective!

THE BENEFITS OF SPRING WATER

Natural spring water is your best bet when it comes to choosing what kind of water to put in your body! It can be found in surface level or underground springs.

Here are a few things to know about natural spring water!

  • It’s loaded with minerals and is alkaline (or not acidic) which helps keep the body and cells in healthy balance.
  • Since it is sourced from natural springs, there is always a chance of contamination, so it’s important to choose from places with a good reputation and a clean environment! (Ask around and do your research!)
  • You can buy spring water already bottled, but remember to stick to glass when you can. Also, water bottled at the source is better than water that has been transported, treated, and then bottled.
  • It can definitely be a bit more costly than other types of bottled water, but it’s worth the extra buck to avoid all of the nasty contaminants in alternative waters.

Here’s the fun part… you can even bottle your own natural spring water at the source, and there are a ton of springs that allow that!

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

When it comes to drinking water, do your best to drink from glass or metal, and to avoid buying and using plastic bottles.

The reason for this (among helping cut down on plastic waste) is because the plastic used for bottled water is often still hot when the water is filled, and the water can leach harmful chemicals from the heated plastic.

Also, when choosing bottled spring water, beware of all the false claims and never trust a source just because it says “natural” or “spring” on the label. We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it again, do your research!

If you do use plastic, try to look for bottles that are BPA and/or PVC free to avoid contamination.

H2-OH SO GOOD

When it comes to drinking quality water, it’s impossible to be perfect all the time.

Do what you can and focus on drinking the highest quality water as often as possible! Treat yourself to a glass water bottle and bring your own water with you when you can.

Use the information above to help you and your clients opt for the best water quality available!
