Have you been trying everything to increase your happiness? Maybe you’re thinking that you
need to go to Bali to get it?
The good news is that you don’t need to go to Bali to find happiness — although I’m sure Bali
would bring you happiness!
Instead of booking your flight, would you be willing to try a 40-day practice at home to increase
your happiness?
Trust me! You don’t need to turn your life upside down, run to a therapist, pop pills, or pack your
bags and head to an Ashram for an “Eat, Pray, Love” experience.
You can transform your “good enough” life into a great one very simply.
I am obsessed with my morning practices and I want to share them with you! This is #1 key to
happiness and fulfillment in this human life we’ve been gifted.
I used to constantly think, “Is this all there is?”
Everything in my life was “fine” so why did I feel such angst and disappointment (with guilt for
feeling that way sprinkled on top)?
Please hear this…. Happiness, personal growth, and transformation should be simple. They are not
reserved for those who can hire energy healers and travel to foreign gurus (although I love all of
that, too).
If you’re feeling the way I felt, wondering why you’re not as happy as you “should” be; if the
highlights of your days include food and wine; or if you just know something needs to change,
please read on and try out my morning practice until it becomes yours!
I promise to keep it simple if you promise to commit to it for the next 40 days!
DO THIS IF YOU WANT TO BE HAPPY!
There is nothing more important than a daily morning practice. In my personal practice, I keep
things simple!
I am going to share what that looks like and why you should create your own morning practice
too!
4 REASONS YOU SHOULD COMMIT TO A MORNING PRACTICE
- Because you want more from your life than just mediocrity (checking the boxes,
living on autopilot, and disconnected from your authentic self). - Because when you wake up in the morning, your unconscious mind has stopped
the momentum from the night before, and you are better able to program in what
you desire. - Because you want to get to the end of your life feeling like you lived it, not just
‘got by’ letting your habitual thoughts run the day. - And if that’s not good enough, think about this… almost all the successful people
I follow talk about having a daily — usually morning — practice!
CAN A MORNING PRACTICE REALLY CHANGE MY LIFE?
Absolutely! Without a doubt! If you’re reading this, your intuition is letting you know that it’s time
to stop waiting.
Being happy doesn’t come from a pill or potion. It doesn’t come from a lightning strike moment.
It comes in little moments and consistent practices!
In fact, our lives can only change if we focus on what we want to change. A morning practice
creates space in your day to do just that.
Plus, it’s a time to focus on what you desire, to envision what you want to accomplish, and to
connect with that part of you that knows more than your conscious could ever come up with.
BUT I’VE TRIED TO HAVE A MORNING PRACTICE AND IT NEVER STICKS
I feel you, my friend!
Here’s what I tell my clients, “You must make your morning MAGICAL! It must be something that
you look forward to! My morning practice is the highlight of my day. I’m excited to wake up just
to sit in my comfy chair with my delicious coffee, my adorable journal, my pretty mala beads,
and a glowing candle or Christmas lights.”
Please, just TRY it on for 40 days and don’t drop it because it’s “not working”.
MAKE IT WORK FOR YOU
On Day 1, you probably won’t feel like waking up a little earlier to do it, but by Day 40 — if
you’ve created a MAGICAL morning for yourself — you will never look back!
Expect resistance at first because it’s new; expect that little voice in your head to freak out
because you “should really sleep more”. Don’t listen to her!
Finally, don’t expect some “perfect” spiritual experience! I’m a girl from New York that has no
interest in being a silent monk living in seclusion, so give yourself some grace and individuality
around this!
Make it work for YOU!
I used to meditate only after I had my coffee. The thought of not having my coffee first was
excruciating even though I thought I “should” meditate before caffeinating.
But the truth is that if I had tried, then I would’ve never meditated at all. My point… don’t try to
be perfect, just do something!
Now that I’ve convinced you (right?), here is what my morning practice looks like. I invite you to
try it on as written or with your own spin. It’s ALL good! The only thing that’s not good is doing
nothing.
MORNING PRACTICE: PHASE 1
Let’s start with “HAPPINESS HYGIENE”. This is morning practice “Phase 1” because it can be
done in less than 5 minutes in bed! (This is the one part I use when I have to be on a 4 am
flight and there’s no time to sit for an hour.)
For the next 40 Days, commit to each of these “MORNING HAPPINESS HYGIENE HABITS”.
1. SMILE AND SAY THANK YOU
Do these as soon as you open your eyes. (No. Matter. What.) The fact that you woke up
is something to smile about and something to be grateful for.
Not everyone wakes up. Not everyone is in a warm bed. If you want to be happier, ACT
like it, starting here.
2. RECITE A MANTRA
I love this one: “Something amazingly awesome is going to happen to me today.”
Repeat at least 3 times out loud (or in your head) BEFORE getting out of bed.
Keep saying it in your mind as you go about your day. This mantra is from Pam Grout’s
book Thank and Grow Rich.
3. GRATITUDE
While still in bed, think of at least 3 things you’re grateful for! Don’t get crazy, just 3
things big or small.
MORNING PRACTICE: PHASE 2
Now comes morning practice “Phase 2”, and this is my favorite! (This is where the MAGIC is!)
You can add these to the “Happiness Hygiene Habits” to create an absolutely magical morning.
This is your sacred happiness hour! You will cultivate your own happiness by connecting to your
inner authenticity before the day takes you over and brings you right back to any old, habitual
thoughts.
For the next 40 Days, make your life magic!
You’ve done the first 3 hygiene “steps”, so you’re already in a more positive headspace!
Now, make yourself a warm beverage, and sit in your “sacred space” for your practice.
1. MEDITATE OR VISUALIZE
I love the Insight Timer app where you find great guided meditations and visualizations
starting at just a minute long! (Feel free to ask me for more meditation ideas for other
guided meditations or visualizations that I adore!)
2. BE INSPIRED
Read an inspiring morning message in a book or wherever you find peace. I love reading
a book with a hot cup of coffee and Christmas lights, candles, or my salt lamp glowing.
Make your morning special! Some people like to listen to books on audio at this time —
that works great too!
3. JOURNAL
The morning is a great time to write down insights from meditation, or just get thoughts
and emotions out so you can change them.
You can also use this space to write things that you are grateful for and set intentions for the
flow of your day or life! (Use a paper journal or try The Five Minute Journal app!)
4. SET AN INTENTION
After journaling, you may have a better idea of where your inner guide wants you to
focus, so set that intention, and call on it all throughout your day!
5. MOVEMENT
Get some exercise! Movement creates flow, lightness, joy and positive perspectives. You
are a happier person when you move — I guarantee it!
IN CONCLUSION
A morning practice is a time for magic and connection with your authentic self, and the Universe
(not your phone!).
It is critical to opening up your awareness and feeling more at ease. It also creates a spark of
motivation and excitement that stays with you through your day.
A morning practice is well worth the time that you put in. While it may be tough to start, I know
you will love this magical time as much as I do.
So light those candles, fill your mug, pull out that book and your cute journal for the next 40
days!!!
