Whether it’s raising happy and healthy children, becoming the best at work, starting a thriving business, or fulfilling a travel bucket list, we all have our own unique goals.
However, sometimes the desire to quit is so much simpler, even when you know this is exactly what you want to do in life.
You might be overwhelmed with responsibilities you can’t avoid, exhausted, or just getting the sense that your coaching goal is unattainable.
Sometimes all it takes is a few mental shifts to get back on track. Here are four tricks I use to keep pushing through to succeed at anything I set out to achieve.
1. REMEMBER WHY YOU’RE PURSUING YOUR GOAL IN THE FIRST PLACE
If I ever feel like I want to throw in the towel, I go back to the real reason I’m focused on my bigger goal. “Why was I so lit up about this before?”
2. ACT AS IF YOU’RE ALREADY SUCCESSFUL
I also envision how I will feel when I achieve what I’ve set out to do. I act as if I already have the success I’ve worked so hard toward.
Success can be anything; it’s not just financial.
For me, I will be successful if I can be there for my child and create a stable environment where she knows her worth in the world. An environment where she knows what makes her happy and what doesn’t, and she dares to live a life of her making.
When I can say the hard things to my partner, and hear the hard things from him right back, and love him unconditionally through it all.
I will be successful as we continue to hold each other to higher standards and challenge each other to grow.
I will be successful when I help 1 million women discover what they’re REALLY hungry for. So they can stop dieting and focus on creating their legacy in the world.
I will be successful when we graduate 250,000 students from the Institute of Transformational Nutrition. And, they’re helping other people discover how to heal their health and their hearts for good. In other words, when we create an army for change, for transformation.
3. COUNT THE SUCCESSES YOU ALREADY HAVE
I then stop and look at how successful I already am.
I’m successful right now because my daughter knows who she is and no matter what happens, I know she will make her own decisions based on what she came into this world with and that’s perfect.
I’m already successful because I have had the opportunity to be challenged. And I came through it stronger with my partner who I love more than I thought was possible in this lifetime.
I’m already successful because I’ve helped one person discover what they were REALLY hungry for so they can live the life they want.
I’m already successful because we’ve helped one person graduate from the Institute of Transformational Nutrition and that one person will change and save so many lives.
4. PRACTICE GRATITUDE
Perhaps most importantly, I’m grateful.
I stop and think daily about how grateful I am to have lived the life I’ve lived — the good, the bad, the hurtful, the joyous, and the challenging. I’m grateful for the opportunities.
And if I fail, I’m grateful for the opportunity to fail because I will learn so much from that.
Being grateful and seeing pitfalls and setbacks as opportunities keeps me going forward.
AND REMEMBER,
It’s important to remember why we’re doing this in the first place and to see how far we’ve already come. Be grateful for the success AND the setbacks. Always know the setbacks are opportunities to do something bigger, better, and bolder.
