Cathy was fed up with her corporate job. It seemed like what she was doing was meaningless in the grand scheme of things, and to top it off, she was working so many hours that she didn’t have any time for herself, let alone to pursue her dreams.
She began to think about what she was truly passionate about and what she would do if she knew she couldn’t fail.
As she let her mind run, she kept coming back to the same answer – she would help other people get healthy so they could live fulfilled, happy lives.
After all, health and wellness had become such an integral part of Cathy’s life after she was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes a few years back.
She had never really had concerns about her health or eating healthy and exercising, but once she heard she had diabetes, she knew she needed to make changes.
After quite a bit of work and committing to a total lifestyle change, Cathy was able to reverse her diagnosis, and now she couldn’t help but think she could help others do the same.
Health coaching was the clear answer, but could she do it? Could she take that leap of faith and pursue a career in which she could truly make a difference?
Cathy was struggling with the question, “Is Health Coaching Right For Me?”
If you are in a similar situation, we’re here to help you discover if becoming a health coach is right for you!
IS HEALTH COACHING RIGHT FOR ME?
In order to find out, it’s important to take some time and ask yourself some questions to reflect on your true motives behind wanting to become a health coach.
1. WHY DO I WANT TO BECOME A HEALTH COACH?
Have you had your own health struggle and now want to help others because of it?
Have you watched a friend or family member suffer from their health without knowing how to help them?
Maybe you’re tired of taking prescriptions to mask your symptoms and are ready to find the root cause of your health condition so you can take back control of your own life.
Whatever your reason might be, it’s a good one! Reflect on your reason and make sure it’s something that ignites the passion within you and gets you excited about the possibilities!
2. DO I WANT A CAREER IN WHICH I CAN FEEL FULFILLED?
Are you currently in a position where you feel as if what you do on a daily basis doesn’t really matter in the long run?
Are you questioning how you’re spending your time each day and how you could be doing more to better the world?
If so, like many of our students and graduates, your unfulfillment may be pushing you to make a career change or even pursue your dream of health coaching on the side.
We spend most of our lives working, so shouldn’t you choose to do something that you’re passionate about? Something that makes a difference?
If you’re nodding your head right now, then health coaching might just suit you!
3. WHAT WOULD I DO IF I KNEW I COULDN’T FAIL?
Do you want to become a health coach, or have you wanted to become a health coach for some time now but worry whether or not you can do it?
Are you afraid that taking a risk changing careers or investing in yourself just might be too difficult a task for you?
If none of these fears or hesitations were there, what would you do?
If you knew you were going to be successful no matter what decision you made, what would you do?
Make certain that you’re not letting fear stand in the way of you making a change. Listen to your heart. What is it telling you to do and why?
Everything you want in your life is just on the other side of fear. Feel the fear and let it push you from behind. You can do this!
4. IS MY HEART IN THE RIGHT PLACE?
Ask yourself this question… what is your intention when it comes to being a health coach?
Make sure you’re wanting to truly help yourself and others with their health struggles, make a difference in people’s lives, and ultimately make an impact on the world.
Make sure you want to be a part of something much bigger than yourself – a movement so you can help others heal and leave a legacy.
Take a moment to listen to what your heart is telling you to do instead of making any rash decisions here. If you feel in your heart that you have a passion for this work, for this profound experience that can change your life in the best possible way, then make sure to listen to it!
5. WHAT’S HOLDING ME BACK, REALLY?
If you’ve been through the last four questions and feel strongly about becoming a health coach but still have reservations, ask yourself why? What’s holding you back?
You might be thinking about the investment of money or time for example, but go deeper than that. Is it really about the money? Is it really about the time?
Are there ways in which you can budget to join the program? After all, investing in yourself and your career is investing in your future and it’s more than worth it! YOU are worth it!
Are there ways you can edit your schedule so you can make the time to go through the course? Take a moment to look at your calendar – the events and to-do items on there are your priorities. Can you move anything around to prioritize yourself and your dreams?
We always make the time for the things we’re passionate about. Are you willing to make the time for yourself?
Go deeper than the basic answers here, and make sure you’re not making excuses out of fear.
IN SUMMARY
Only you can make the decision as to whether or not health coaching is right for you, but if you have a good reason, want a career in which you will feel fulfilled, and your heart is in the right place, you will be a great health coach!
Just be sure to not let fear make your decision for you. Ultimately, fear can hold you back from living the life of your dreams or it can propel you forward on a new journey that can change your life.
Which will you choose?
