Are you a lifelong learner? If not, you should be!
As all ITN students and graduates know, becoming a life-long learner is something you must do to boost your brain health and to stay on top of any updated research and industry trends!
Continued education is especially important (eh hem, necessary) for anyone in the health industry, like Health and Life Coaches!
We had a handful of ITN students and graduates attend the most recent Upgrade Labs Biohacking Conference!
And boy, oh boy, did they come back with some fantastic insights, nuggets of wisdom, and loads of inspiration!
They’ve rallied up some of their favorite parts of the 6th Annual Biohacking Conference to share with you (just in case you didn’t get the chance to attend)!
Sit back, relax, and be sure to take notes, because they are giving you some amazing information from the conference!

3 UNDENIABLE WAYS TO ADD YEARS TO YOUR LIFE

I had the amazing opportunity to attend this year’s Upgrade Labs Conference, and it did not disappoint. Dave Asprey doesn’t skimp on anything when it comes to your body, mind, and health, and this was no exception!
Understanding ways we can improve our health through various therapies is significant to our continuous learning.
It is also a great way to introduce fun ideas for clients to help them with things like meditation practices, improved sleep, and body movement and healing.
The “best in show” for me was none other than ITN’s top-notch faculty member, Shawn Stevenson! His presentation titled, “The 3 Keys to Spark & Sustain Your Transformation” focused on the need for diversity in all aspects of health.
The other speakers varied from experts on recovering from and avoiding burnout, stem cell research, enhancing mitochondrial health, human connection, and meditation to ways we can actively train our brain muscles.
MY BIGGEST TAKEAWAYS
1. MEDITATION
Mediation is where it’s at!
In fact, it’s finally becoming “cool”! Imagine a virtual reality scene guiding your breath through inhalation of a stream of wind followed by an exhalation of sparkles and glitter.
It was like the flight-like feeling of a Disney World ride where you are the hummingbird flying around to areas with flowers and gold coins when you are wearing the “Tripp” device.
There was also a vibrating bed which combined with sound beats and flashing red and blue light eye goggles. This thing took you on a journey of senses and triggered various brain states. (Pretty cool!)
And of course, the real deal meditation practice offered each morning was sold out before you had a chance to hit “save a seat” on the app.
2. DIRTY KETO
Dave Asprey’s talk on “Dirty Keto” and why the Keto trend can be dangerous and not sustainable long term.
90% of people are doing “garbage keto” — shifting their focus to the trendy aspects of eating high fat and buying foods labeled “keto” (I’m looking at you Keto cookies!).
The dangers of eating the wrong types of fats and too much animal protein were evident.
He emphasized the importance of the quality of foods, and even more critical, the need for some carbs. Many people do great on keto for several weeks until their body is glucose starved and their gut bacteria is peeved. Without resistant starch, a cascade of issues may come next.
Finally, as coaches, we need to understand the impact of this trend. Especially when it comes to women, as they are often affected by a disruption in sleep when adhering to Keto long-term, without the right amount of carbs.
3. SLEEP
At this point, you would think everyone would get it: sleep is the magical time of restore and repair!
People are still missing this concept and sacrificing sleep for devices and that badge of honor for being the busiest.
Not only did Shawn emphasize the importance of sleep, as he discusses extensively in his best-selling book “Sleep Smarter”, Ariana Huffington also reiterated the critical need for recovery in the hectic lifestyles of today’s Americans.
IT WAS AMAZING
I could go on and on about the gadgets and amazing technology, like the Alpha Brain device, FDA approved for inflammation, pain, anxiety, and depression or the Light Stim devices that promote muscle recovery and minor pain, also approved by the FDA for these indications.
Or what about the exceptional energy I felt after a shot to the tummy of NAD (another component of our body that was the “talk of the show”)?
I could get lost in the practice of taking a placebo pill, knowing it’s the placebo and watching people’s dreams unfold. Or we could dive into why Joseph Mercola claims your phone may be killing you.
There was so much amazing information! I’m still reeling from the excitement!
HACK THE BIOHACKS

Besides the glorious sunshine, the most powerful element of the 6th Annual Biohacking Conference was without a doubt the people!
For me, it included making new ITN friends and hearing our very own Shawn Stevenson speak.
For some of the lecturers, this is their favorite conference of the year because of the people it attracts. Everyone is hungry for information and ready to throw convention to the wind to achieve greatness.
I mean, these are people who spontaneously start a meditation circle full of strangers in the middle of the day! (Pretty awesome, right?!)
TECH PLAYGROUND
It would be wrong to forget about the tech playground — one speaker literally referred to it as being a “kid in a candy store” and he was spot on. There were gadgets, free samples & experiences I’ve certainly never had before — just imagine a snowsuit that does the work of ten massage therapists. Yeah, that exists and was one of my favorites!
As for the actual science, it’s all about the cell. If only I could remember just how many times I heard of technologies to recharge the batteries that are your poor, tired cells.
There are all sorts of ways to use electrical stimulation, compression, cold, and exercise devices to achieve recovery from injury & illness.
There are therapies based on light, sound & energetic frequencies, rather than just supplement protocols and diets.
THE CROWD PLEASER
Oh, and the word “keto” was definitely thrown around more than a few times! There were also ways to “hack the hacks” — like going out into nature to soak up negative ions, which was one of the benefits of the charged mat I got to lay on!
Perhaps most interesting, I learned the science behind EMF dangers and only scratched the surface on the topic of plant viruses.
(Get ready for the cheese, folks.)
Some of the devices may have recharged the energy of my cells, but speaking to other people reignited the passion for why I do exactly what I do. I’d argue that’s the most valuable takeaway of all.
IN CONCLUSION
There you have it, folks!
So many BIG and exciting things came from this weekend conference! We are so grateful to be part of this amazing industry and love all the exciting education and information that is making its way into the mainstream!
