28 Ways To Self-Love Unselfishly

28 Ways To Self-Love Unselfishly

Why wait until February to celebrate love? Why not celebrate love every day, especially the love you have for yourself?

You work so hard to support those around you. You deserve to show yourself a little support too.

Trust me, I get it. As a mom, I have a busy lifestyle that includes taking care of the many needs of my children, my husband, my home and my business. Sometimes I wonder if my family would even survive without me!

Being a wife and mother is something I have wanted to be since I was a little girl. I love it! It brings me joy and pleasure and heartache and pain.

Being a mom and a wife can also lead to a severe love deficiency if you’re not careful.

I have learned over the years that the responsibilities of raising a family can suck you dry if you don’t make it a priority to set aside time to love yourself!

Sometimes moms think that taking time for themselves is somehow selfish. I used to feel that focusing on my wants, my needs, and my desires were self-centered and made me a “bad” mom.

However, I have learned that the more love I give myself, the more love I can give to others.

The time I spend loving me is sacred time. It recharges me! It helps me to be a better mom and a more devoted wife. It also gives me the mental clarity to focus on my business, and it allows me to be more attentive to the needs of my clients too!

Showing yourself more love doesn’t have to take too much time or focus away from your other responsibilities. With self-love, a little bit goes a long way!

28 WAYS TO SELF-LOVE UNSELFISHLY

DAY 5: TOSS THE TRASH

Write down the lies and negative self-talk that roll around in your head. Then take that list and turn all those negative comments into positive ones. Keep the positive ones to read often and throw the negative ones away.

DAY 6: STRENGTHS

Make a list of your strengths, talents, and skills. Don’t be modest or humble here! Have fun and be honest about all the things you are good at!

Think about things others compliment you on, or ask those closest to you what they think you’re good at! They will happily give you ideas of what your strengths might be.

DAY 7: PLAY

Remind yourself of the things you enjoyed doing as a child and schedule time to do a few of them. An excellent place to start is swinging at the park or playing with your kids!

DAY 8: SWITCH IT UP

If you run errands and go to and from work using the same route every day, shake it up by taking the scenic route. This will wake up your brain and give it a chance to notice new and unfamiliar things — turning the ho-hum of routine into something a little more exciting.

DAY 9: SHAKE IT, BABY!

Turn up your favorite music and dance away your worries and stress! Sure, they may not entirely go away, but you’ll have a better attitude once the music stops.

DAY 10: GIVE BACK

Volunteering can help you develop a sense of purpose all while you are making a difference in someone else’s life. Whether you volunteer by donating money or time, it is a great way to boost your morale, as well as, that of your community.

DAY 11: STOP & SMELL THE FLOWERS

Take a minute every day to connect with your senses — this will help bring mindfulness to your day. In the case of flowers take time to really notice everything about them. What color are they? What do they smell like? What do they look like?

DAY 12: JOURNAL

Write a list of at least ten things you love about YOURSELF! This is a great list to have on hand and read when you have those days where nothing seems to go right.

DAY 15: GIVE COMPLIMENTS

Do you find it easy to give compliments to others? What about giving compliments to yourself? If that sounds strange to you, then it’s the perfect thing to do!

Here’s a couple to get you started:

  • “I am amazing!”
  • “I am beautiful!”
  • “I am intelligent!”

DAY 16: ACCEPT COMPLIMENTS

It’s really as simple as this — YOU are worthy of compliments, so just say, “Thank you!”

DAY 17: DATE YOURSELF

This can be a free date, like a walk through the park or a hike in the mountains, or it can be a little more luxurious like scheduling a pedicure or a massage.

Commit to this date like you would anything else. DO NOT cancel on yourself!

DAY 18: ACKNOWLEDGE

Make a list of your accomplishments and how you have made a difference in the lives of others. It’s important to acknowledge all the good you’ve done and all you’ve accomplished!

DAY 19: GRATITUDE

Make gratitude a part of your daily routine. Take some time at the end of each day to vocally express or write down five things that you were grateful for that day.

These can be people, places, situations, things, events, etc. Nothing is too small to be grateful for!

DAY 20: BODY LOVE

Write a love letter to your least favorite part of your body. Be honest about why you’ve had a difficult time with it in the past, then get mushy about why that part is actually amazing.

What does it do for you? What does it allow you to do? Why are you lucky to have it?

DAY 21: YOGA

Yoga has a way of helping you connect on a deeper level with your body and helps you create balance and connection with the physical and spiritual parts of your life.

Find a local studio or search online or even download a yoga app.

DAY 22: COOK

Cook yourself an elaborate, nutritious, and delicious meal! Put down a tablecloth, turn on some music, spend time on the plate presentation, and then savor and enjoy every single bite. Try eating with all five senses!

Just breath! Sit down, close your eyes and take some deep breaths.

Deep breathing helps relieve tension, increases energy, calms the nervous system, helps create a positive mental state, and is essential for so many other body functions.

DAY 24: MEDITATE

Have you ever said this, “With all the demands of life, how would I ever have time to meditate?”

Meditation will help calm your mind, prioritize your thoughts and help you to become more focused on your actions. There are many meditation apps available that only require a few minutes each day.

Find an app that works for you! Insight Timer is a great meditation app for beginners to seasoned meditators.

Read a good book! Find a book that’s strictly for entertainment. Something you can sit down with and escape into another world or time and leave all your other worries behind.

DAY 26: POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS

Create a positive affirmation that’s important to you! It can simply be a sentence or mantra of personal significance.

Write it on a sticky note and stick it somewhere you’ll see it every day. From now on, when you see that piece of paper, you have to say the affirmation out loud.

DAY 27: SLEEP

Getting good quality sleep is important to your physical, emotional, and spiritual health and well-being. Take time to create a bedtime routine. Include practices that calm your mind, such as, taking a warm bath, reading, writing in your journal, or meditation.
