The Importance of Personalized Health and Wellness

Two women meet to create a personalized plan for how they will achieve their health and wellness goals.

Brief overview of the Transformational Nutrition Model

We have done a few blog posts breaking down each pillar of our signature Transformational Nutrition Model — including detailed explanations of physical, mental, and spiritual nutrition.

Now it’s time to look at the bigger picture of the Transformational Nutrition Model. You see, ITN Founder Cynthia Garcia realized there needed to be a change in the health and fitness world when she came to realize that we are fed by so much more than what’s on our plate. She realized that we should be approaching nutrition as a three-legged stool held up by the components mentioned at the beginning (physical, mental, and spiritual aspects).

So, to achieve her mission of changing the way the world feeds itself, Cynthia designed an entire nutrition coaching school that would aid others in learning the importance of prioritizing not just the things we eat, but also the relationships we have, the way we feel inside, and so much more!

But, there is another important characteristic of the Transformational Nutrition Model we’d like to discuss, and that is the importance of a personalized plan when it comes to health and wellness.

This is truly the glue that holds science, psychology, and spirituality together!

Why is personalized nutrition so important?

You can probably guess what personalized nutrition is — it is the process of coming up with a health and wellness routine that is specific to you as an individual.

Personalized nutrition doesn’t just say, “Okay, here’s what you need to do to lose weight,” and gives the same plan to hundreds of people (like so many sources online do!). Instead, personalized nutrition dives deep into the following:

  • Your desired health outcome
  • A specific and detailed plan to achieve that desired outcome
  • A way to measure your progress and changes

Not only that, personalized nutrition also takes into account factors such as behavior, environment, and current lifestyle. It looks at previous health conditions, genetics, your current habits, and so much more!

It’s no secret that everybody and every body is different, which means personalized nutrition will look different for everyone. So, why wouldn’t our wellness routines follow that same rule? Not only will personalized nutrition help you develop deeper connections with your clients, but it will also help them see more lasting results!

Take, for example, the following two situations:

Jessica comes into your office and says, “I want to lose weight.”

Without asking any additional questions, you hand her a sheet of paper with her new meal plan and exercise routine. You say, “Here you go! Good luck!” and watch as she walks out the door.

That is what the nutrition industry is doing too much of right now. People are prescribing fixes for people they have never even seen before!

On the other hand, let’s visit another client named Allison.

Allison walks into your office and says, “I want to lose weight.”

Immediately, you start asking Allison questions. You come to find out that Allison is suffering from depression and anxiety, she is in an unhealthy relationship, she’s unhappy with her current career, and she is also having hormonal issues.

Guess what? Your plan looks a lot different for Allison than it does for Jessica. Why? Because you actually know not only what Jessica wants but how she’s feeling, what she’s going through, and many other factors!

Clients as active participants in their plans

Another aspect of personalized nutrition that helps elevate it beyond any other model is the fact that it allows for communication and flexibility with your client.

In creating their new wellness routine, they will be able to ask you questions, tell you what they do and don’t like, and help guide you toward something they feel happy about!

They will no longer be forcing themselves to drink green juices that they hate, or running a mile each day when it’s the last thing they’d ever want to do. Personalized nutrition makes it possible for them to find a plan that not only works, but makes them feel good.
