– Just get started — it doesn’t have to be perfect right away!
– Create your first offer and get it out into the world.
– It’s important to meet your clients where they are.
– Your clients are responsible for their results.
You had a feeling that you were meant for something bigger! You just knew it because you did it! After all, you were able to get your body and mind back to health on your own. After your transformation, it was clear you were destined to help others do the same!
So, you signed up for the best nutrition school (clearly I’m talking about ITN here!) and upon graduation, you eagerly started your health coaching business!
If you haven’t caught on yet, I’m basically telling you my story!
Here’s the thing, there are so many things I wish I knew before I started health coaching and because I wish someone would have told me these things before I began my journey as a Health Coach, I’m going to do you a favor and share them with you!
It’s important to remember that we all have to start somewhere. Begin right where you are, and you’ll continue to build confidence over time.
Never forget that there are people out there who need you right now!
I’m going to share with you the top five things I wish I knew when I got started as a Transformational Nutrition Coach.
5 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BEGIN HEALTH COACHING
1. REMEMBER WHY YOU DECIDED TO BECOME A COACH
To discover what you love about coaching, make a list of the things you accomplished with your own health.
Maybe your own transformation is why you’re becoming a Health Coach. Or perhaps, it’s the success you’ve gotten with friends, family or co-workers just by inspiring them with your health story.
I lost over 40 lbs and kept it off! I knew exactly how I did it and I wanted to help other people who were overweight and suffering to get their health back.
Take some time to get clear on these questions…
- What is it that you want to coach others to do?
- How will you be of best service to them?
2. GET STARTED
Next, remember that you don’t need to have it all figured out — just get started! You can even integrate coaching with your current business or job.
I wanted to transition from personal training and work full time as a nutrition coach. At first, I offered my training clients nutrition coaching as an additional service. I also asked them for testimonials and referrals.
Offering a discount as you’re beginning and getting written or video testimonials will build credibility as a health coach. This will naturally increase your confidence, and you can share your testimonials with prospective clients, on your website, and your social media.

3. CREATE YOUR FIRST OFFER
Now that you’re rocking and rolling, you can create a simple money-making program fast! Seriously!
The good news is that you don’t need to know all the answers and you don’t need to be perfect. Have a clear focus for your health coaching business and hone in on your niche.
Begin by sharing your story and use the knowledge you have learned in your certification to create your first program.
I started by creating a 6-week and a 12-week package that I used with my one-on-one clients. I then used the most sought after information I gathered from those sessions to develop a 6-week evergreen online program. (Work smarter, not harder!)
Be uniquely you! Keep learning and adding to your expertise, offers, and programs.
4. MEET YOUR CLIENTS WHERE THEY ARE
Remember where you were when you started your path back to health?
As a coach, you want to be able to listen to your client and hear their pain. Together you can make simple shifts that they can begin implementing right NOW.
It may take time before they start their day with a protein and veggie filled breakfast in place of their usual latte and muffin, and that’s absolutely okay!
It may not be realistic to expect your client to jump into a whole new way of eating right away. As a coach, you can move them through this process (and encourage them) with each coaching session.
5. YOU’RE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR CLIENTS RESULTS
That’s right! Your clients are the ones that need to do the work!
When coaching your clients, simply ask them questions and provide something new at every session. They can learn from the new information you share with them.
Keep them accountable for their goals. From there, it’s up to them to take action on the plan you’ve co-created together.
IN CONCLUSION
You have all the potential in the world inside of you already. Don’t let the fear of thinking you have to know everything stop you.
Don’t mistakenly think you are missing the tools you need to be a successful Health Coach! Here is one more secret… you’re already an expert! Take some time to celebrate your success.
Share something beautiful about the transformation you made in your own health and life in the comments below.
Im living it right now and living proof that the transformation can happen but the mind and body have to be in agreement that they are going to do it! The results are always ours and with the mind, body, soul approach, understanding how we gained the weight in the first place is key. Then making an active decision that you come first and change is on its way. Anything is possible. Ive been on so many roller coaster rides this really fits my lifestyle. Thank you Maria your methods have truly changed my life.
Thank you for sharing, Claudia! You put it so beautifully! Are you currently a Health Coach??
