You’ve finally graduated! You’re a Certified Health Coach!

You have those coveted initials after your name, and you’re filled with all the knowledge you need to become a successful Health Coach! You can’t wait to get started with clients and to make a difference in the world.

Your first few clients book their sessions! Woohoo!

That’s when you hear it, an unwelcome voice within telling you that you don’t have the confidence to take these clients on.

We are going to stop right here and tell you first and foremost, that you DO have what it takes!

You have all you need to make big, beautiful waves in this world as a Health Coach! You have the knowledge, the compassion, and the confidence!

TAKE A DEEP BREATH! You’ve got this!

Know that you are not alone in possessing these feelings! In fact, most new health coaches have experienced this false belief a time or two.

The key is to NOT give in to this false belief.

Try these three steps to change your current state of mind in just three minutes with this coaching confidence exercise.

You can do them all together, spending a minute on each step, or you can choose to focus on one at a time for three minutes each.

1. BECOME AWARE

Become aware of how you are feeling. This is about settling into yourself, sitting quietly, and feeling what is coming up.

  • What is the feeling?
  • Where is it coming from?
  • What does it feel like?
  • Where do you feel it in your body?
  • Is there a color associated with it? If so, what color?

It is about reconnecting and becoming aware of you and your body and how you are in this moment. It may not always feel good, but it is important that you acknowledge it.

Remember that you don’t want to ignore emotions, you want to bring attention to them and learn from them.

If you try to ignore it, it is just going to persist throughout the session with your client. Learning from them will help you deal better with them in the future.

Become aware of your feeling and be with that for a moment.

2. REFOCUS

You can refocus once you feel this. Remember that it is not about you, but instead, it is all about helping your clients.

Shift the focus from self to service is what we like to say! Keep that as a mantra as you begin any coaching sessions.

Look at how you can shift your focus from your own ego and being nervous in the moment to your client, their needs, and their progress.

Taking the time to re-read your client’s intake forms is a great way to refocus on your client’s goals and the fact that you are there to be of service.

It’s also helpful to have notes handy so that you can refer back to them at any point during your session.

3. GET PHYSICAL

Go ahead, laugh! Seriously though, Olivia Newton-John had the right idea!

Think about it this way; feelings are just energy. That’s it!

Physical movement of any kind can help to release this energy and your attachment to not feeling confident. Moving around, whether it be dancing, walking, or stretching, will also release endorphins, which will lift your mood!

Try yoga, jogging in place, doing jumping jacks, or any activity you like. Focus on the enjoyment and fun of an activity instead of dwelling on your nerves.

BOOST YOUR CONFIDENCE AS A HEALTH COACH

It only takes three short minutes to regain control of your emotions and shift them from doubt (eh hem, a false belief) to confidence (your truth)!

  1. Become aware, acknowledge, and sit with your emotions.
  2. Refocus your attention to all the good you’re doing in this world and your client’s needs.
  3. Move around, have some fun, and get physical! You’ll feel so much better, we promise!

Use these practices over and over again with both yourself and your clients. You’ll start to see massive shifts and always feel that boost of confidence you need.

Remember, you’re doing AMAZING things in this world as a Health Coach. There are so many people who are looking to work with you! Sixty percent of Americans, to be exact!
