The Beginner’s Guide To Social Media For Business

Optimizing Social Media For Your Business

There are so many different social media channels, so how do you possibly choose the right one for your business?

Or should you try to do them all?

The short answer; don’t try to juggle all the platforms. Unless you have an entire social marketing team working on strategies, we recommend narrowing down the ones that will work best for your business.

We know that social media marketing can seem overwhelming; so we created four simple steps to help get you started on the right track. We don’t want to see you get lost in a sea of pages.

Our Top Tips For Social Media That Sells

Tip 1: Choose 2-3 Social Media Channels to Promote Your Business

As mentioned above, it’s always best to put all your efforts into a few social channels than trying to succeed in all of them.

Social media is a lot of time-consuming work, so don’t spread yourself too thin or all your channels will end up suffering.

The key is to figure out where your target audience spends most of their time and start building there.

Tip 2: Think About What Inspires You and Gets You to Click When You’re On Social Media

You were inspired to create this business for a reason, and now you need to find the best ways to share that inspiration with the world.

Let’s think about the things that stand out to you on social media, what gets you to click? Do infographics catch your attention? Would you much rather watch a video than seeing a picture?

Think about the posts that trigger a reaction from you, and start a list to share your version of those ideas on your pages.

Tip 3: Consider a Blog For Your Business

Blogs are a great way to create shareable content in your style. Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and so forth are all great social channels, but they have limitations on the things that you can share.

A blog is your space. An entire area that you can design based on your vision for your business.

Some of our favorite sites to get started with your blog are WordPress.com and Squarespace.com.

They have customizable templates to help you get started, and plenty of guidance through the entire process. Your new blog can be clicks away!

Tip 4: Stay Consistent With Social Media

One of the simplest mistakes to make when it comes to social media is not staying consistent. That’s why we suggest only starting with a few social channels.

Once you’ve narrowed down the platforms you want to begin, we highly recommend creating a content calendar. Check out other pages for inspiration, and write down a list of your ideas to post.

Since you haven’t created any pages yet, you won’t have insights on what time and days your audience is most active, so think about when you are most active on social media and start there.

Once you’ve gathered all that information, create an entire month worth of ideas for content, times and days to share, what’s going on each social channel, and look into auto schedulers to help you keep up!

Planning helps with consistency. If you only post when you remember or when you have time, you’ll never be able to grow or create an engaged community.

Takeaways

Focus on Community

If there’s only one thing you take away from this entire post, please let it be this: Focus on the community that you’re creating more than the number of your followers.

Say you only have 1,000 followers, but they’re very engaged in your conversation, you are better off than if you would’ve had 10,000 followers who aren’t listening to your message.

Engagement is Key

Create compelling content that will get people to talk, and always respond. Regardless of how old your post is, try always to answer. Your followers will notice that.

Those engaged people are much more likely to click through to your site and convert, than the people who just hit “like” on your page and never revisit.

Work your way through all these steps, and once you learn more about your audience adjust your goals. Make sure to stay organized and consistent!
