Since a coach can help you through major life changes, it’s important to know how to find the perfect coach for yourself.

HOW TO FIND A LIFE COACH

GET CLEAR ON WHAT YOU WANT TO CHANGE

When you’re looking around for your perfect match, it’s good to be clear about what you’d like to achieve. Before you start searching, start to think about your goals.

What is it you’d like your coach to help you with?

Are there any specific areas of your life you’d really like help transforming?

Maybe you’d like a relationship coach, a career coach, an executive coach, a health coach, a business coach, or maybe you want something more general?

Getting clear on your goals before searching can help your search immensely. Of course, you may not have it all figured out yet – and that’s ok. No matter what kind of coach you choose, a great coach will help hold you accountable so you can change your life.

This article will help you find that clarity and help you learn the process for identifying that perfect Life Coach who can help you identify and achieve your goals.

DECIDE IF YOU PREFER IN PERSON OR ONLINE COACHING

In today’s world, you can do just about anything virtually or online.

For some people, being in person is preferred. For others, an online Life Coach will work just fine. In each case, there are pros and cons.

The most recent data reports that there are over 50,000 coaches in America, it’s important to have an idea of how you’d like to work with your coach. Since some coaches are exclusively online and others are in-person, it’s good to know what you prefer. While most coaches with offices will offer in-person visits or online coaching, most online coaches will not offer both services.

SEARCH FOR LIFE COACHES ONLINE

Now that you’ve gotten clear about some goals and the type of coaching medium, it’s time to start searching.

As you search you can put in words like, “life-coach, relationship coach, business coach” or whatever terms you’ve identified as essential for you. And if you want a coach near you, be sure to include, “coach near me.”

While you’re searching, make note of the coaches who appeal to you. It’s a good idea to make a note of more than one coach in case any of them are too expensive, have full schedules, or aren’t a match for you for some reason or another later on.

REACH OUT AND SCHEDULE CONSULTATION COACHING SESSIONS

Now that you’ve identified a few coaches that strike you as good matches – it’s time to do some consultation sessions. If you’ve never done a consult, these are typically short get-to-know-you type ‘sample sessions.’

Most often these short sessions are anywhere from 20-45 minutes. During these sessions, you can see if you feel comfortable with your potential coach. It’s important that in these meetups you share your goals, fears, or any thoughts you have about coaching.

Treat these consults as important meetings that will allow you to find your perfect coach. Before you go into these take a moment to consider the questions below.

ASK THESE QUESTIONS DURING YOUR COACHING CONSULTATIONS

Since consults offer you a chance to get to know your future coach, take a moment to ask these questions:

  • What’s your experience as a coach?
  • What would you say is your coaching style?
  • Do you specialize in anything?
  • What are your coaching certifications? (This question is often overlooked by clients, and it shouldn’t be. Here’s our page for coaching certifications so you can understand what we mean).
  • Do you offer customer support? If so, what kind? (emails, phone calls, etc)
  • What is the cost of your services and do you offer discounts to first time clients who buy a package (multiple sessions)?

TAKE ACTION AND HIRE A COACH YOU LIKE

After you’ve done your research, talked to your best candidates, and you’re clear on who to hire – it’s time to act.

Remember, a coach can help you identify where you want to point your life and then help hold you accountable. And as you may already know, research shows successful people make accountability a key ingredient in achieving their goals. A Life Coach can help you achieve your goals by being that person who knows your blinds spots and pushes you while inspiring you to push yourself. They’ll ask you those deeper questions and provide you an ear when you’re feeling stuck.

So, now it’s time to act and make transformation a part of your life.
