Self-Coaching Is the New Self-Care

When we think of the term “self-care,” there are some common things that immediately come to mind.

We think of self-care as taking time for ourselves to relax, recenter, and rejuvenate. Maybe it’s sitting in front of the fire with a cup of tea and a good book.

Or for you, self-care could look like taking a yoga class, going on a hike, a meditation session, or even a massage.

Heck, maybe you’re even one of those people who find cleaning the house and organizing the closets therapeutic! (You do you.)

But what we typically don’t think of when it comes to self-care is the process of working on ourselves from a more inside perspective, in the form of self-coaching.

What Is Self-Coaching?

Self-coaching basically means making a commitment to check in with yourself on an ongoing basis to make sure you’re adequately dealing with your own issues and emotions so that you can show up as your best self every day.

It’s a way of mastering your own life so that you’re ready to face every challenge and every next step head-on with confidence. It’s such a huge part of being a successful coach and motivator so that you can serve others to the best of your ability.

Your stuck story is the thing in your life that’s holding you back from reaching your full potential and keeping you walking in circles instead of moving forward.

You are a work in progress, and you’re the greatest project you’ll ever work on.

Stop for a second and think about the many experiences you’ve had in your life thus far. Consider what you’ve been through, and think about your victories, obstacles, struggles, and even failures.

There’s a common thread between all of them. Every single experience you’ve had has shaped you in some way, and there is something that you learned from it.

You came away with new knowledge and made adjustments to how you live your life from that point forward so that you could continue to improve yourself.

You may not have ever realized it before, but every time you applied what you learned to move forward, you practiced self-coaching.

Take Care of Yourself So You Can Take Care of Others

That whole “you can’t pour from an empty cup” thing applies to coaching as well. By taking the steps to process your feelings and emotions and to make tweaks and adjustments as necessary, you’ll be much better equipped to help other people do the same.

Whether it be guiding family and friends to help them be more fulfilled or becoming a coach and helping clients lead happier, healthier lives, you’ll be in a better place to do so.

Just imagine for a second how good it would feel if you were able to help other people overcome the things that are troubling them, all while continuing to better yourself.

Remember, your future self is a matter of discovery, not invention. You don’t create your Future Self. It already exists within you. The Future Self Process is a way of discovering what is already there.

Once you know this, act as if the life you pictured already exists. The future you created is your boss.

Remember, everything is possible. Possibility is a future to which you can be committed. You are brave enough.
