7 Prompts to Help You Write an Authentic Story

How To Write An Authentic Story

Telling your story can be intimidating and emotional. We totally get it!!

You might feel like you have to force stories out of yourself or dig deep to try to remember your own life. In doing so, it can cause you to relive all the pain and trauma associated with these memories – all in an effort to grow and connect to your True Self and audience.

To be honest, this sounds exhausting and like way too much emotional work and labor. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Your most powerful story could happen on a random afternoon when you weren’t expecting anything at all.

The thing about your story is that it can be the most powerful tool you have for attracting clients and getting clear on your niche. You see, your story isn’t about you, it’s about telling your story so that other people see their story in yours.

When you allow yourself to be vulnerable as a coach, you become more relatable to your clients and less intimidating. Your story tells your clients and audience that you too are human, just like them! But not only that, if your clients can see their story in yours they will want to work with.

WHERE DO YOU START WHEN IT COMES TO TELLING YOUR STORY?

At the beginning? Somewhere in the middle? Right here and now? The answer to that depends on you and where you want to start. However, a simple way to start telling your story without stress or anxiety… start with the moments.

The moment you had your first symptom.

The moment you broke down in tears on the bathroom floor.

The moment you were about to give up.

The moment your heart broke.

The moment you saw the light.

The moment you found strength.

The moment it all became clear.

Those random moments are the core of your story. Of you. Of why you are who you are and how you came to experience this journey — to share it with others and to help them heal.

Don’t worry about what others will think about you. Be authentic. Let the good, bad, and slightly unattractive show through! Allow the beauty of your vulnerability to shine. People want to hear your story!

People will buy YOU because you’re real!

Are you ready to put pen to paper and tell your story? Here are some prompts to help you get clear on your story so you can share it with those who need to hear it.

And yes, this requires you to sit down and put pen to paper!

7 PROMPTS TO HELP YOU WRITE AN AUTHENTIC STORY

  • Who are you?
  • Why did you get into this business?
  • What exactly do you do and WHY do you do it?
  • How did you grow up?
  • What sparked you to get into this business?
  • What lights your fire and what pees on it to put it out?
  • What makes you excited to get out of bed in the morning?

As you answer these questions, you’ll begin to see your story unfold.

Just a side note, this may be an emotional practice — feel the emotions and honor them. Let your emotions be part of the process, part of your story!

Use the answers you uncovered to create a story that you can share with your audience.

Once your audience sees the beautiful, perfect as you are, vulnerable YOU, they will have a clear understanding of who you are and how you can help them.

You’ll know you’ve found that perfect spot between vulnerability and authenticity when you begin attracting your ideal audience.
