Finding Your Avatar In 3 Simple Steps

Finding Your Avatar In 3 Simple Steps

As a new coach, Megan was unsure of exactly who she wanted to serve. She kept hearing this word “avatar” thrown around, but she didn’t know how to find out exactly who she wanted to help.

Getting clear on an avatar (which is different than a tall, blue movie character!) is a common area of confusion for new coaches. It’s essential that you get clear on your avatar because without a clear avatar, you’ll never know who you’re speaking to or how to attract your ideal clients.

You’ve heard it before, and it’s worth repeating again…

“If you speak to everyone, you speak to no one.” – Meredith Hill

HOW DO YOU FIND YOUR AVATAR

How do you really create the audience, the niche that you want to serve? How do you find that ideal client that you want to show up for — that client that you want to help in a really big way?

We know that in the beginning, it can be challenging to start narrowing down the people that you want to work with. You want to work with anyone and everyone, right?

We can’t stress how important it is to narrow down your avatar. When you do, you will grow your brand faster, you will attract clients more quickly, and you will finally start bringing in that cash money, honey!

Which is why you’re going to figure out your ideal avatar, RIGHT NOW! Don’t worry! We’re here to help you do just that!

Use this simple 3-step formula to create and get clear on your avatar!

FINDING YOUR AVATAR IN 3 SIMPLE STEPS

STEP 1: THEIR PROBLEM, YOUR SOLUTION

This step is easy, peasy — what symptom or symptoms are your ideal clients suffering from and what solution can you offer them?

This is really critical because some people (especially new coaches) will think, “Oh, I just get to choose who I want this person to be, and I’m going to define who they are, and then I’ll just go from there.”

It’s especially important that you focus on the second part of this first step — what solution do you have for your ideal client?

In order to get clear on what solution you have to offer, begin by revisiting your story and your journey! By telling your story, shining light on who you are, and sharing your struggles, you’ll easily be able to create your ideal client.

Trust us when we say that you won’t be able to choose a random avatar and experience success. If you want to be a successful Health Coach and make a significant impact, make sure that there’s a reason behind everything you do.

STEP 2: DOES THEIR WHY ALIGN

The second thing that you want to consider is what their bigger “why” is. When a client comes to you, it’s essential that you find their biggest motivator!

You may have people who come to you, and you say, “Why do you want to lose weight?” And perhaps they’ll say they want to lose weight to “be healthy.”

Okay, maybe that’s true, but most often there’s a deeper reason, which is called their bigger why. It may seem a little straight forward, but the best way to get to this bigger why is to simply keep asking, “Why?”

When you get to the root of your ideal client’s bigger why, check back in with why you do what you do and the solution you have to offer them. Do they align?

If your solution aligns with your avatar’s why, then you may choose to serve that person. It’s when you truly understand what your solution is that you’ll attract clients who align with your mission.

STEP 3: MAKE IT PERSONAL

Onto step number three, which is usually the only step that people take when defining their avatar, make it personal!

You’ve probably heard this before, but in order to have a crystal clear image of your avatar, you have to understand who they are. Grab a notebook and answer these questions…

  • What is their gender?
  • How old are they?
  • Where do they live?
  • Where do they hang out?
  • Where do they shop?
  • What are their values?
  • What’s their mission in the world?

And again, make sure that you’re in alignment so that you feel great about giving, serving, and showing up for these clients!

DON’T MAKE THIS MISTAKE

Many coaches say that their ideal client, their avatar, is them!

Sorry to break it to you, but your avatar is not you! As much as you might want it to be, it’s just not. If they are you, then they don’t need you.

Here’s what we mean — if your client is you, then that means they’ve lived the same life, they’ve had the same experience, they’ve overcome the similar things, they’ve learned the same things that you have, and now they’re just as much of an expert as you are.

So, why would they need you?

Your avatar might be you several years ago. However, you’re several steps ahead of that person. Even if you are just one step in front of them, remember, they’re not you.

IN CONCLUSION

Now that you have your simple 3-step formula for finding your avatar, you’re one step closer to attracting them, creating the perfect program for them, building a truly successful business, and impacting the world in a really big way!

Everything you put out into the world should align with your avatar and should speak directly to them. Revisit your avatar’s traits before you create anything, from your social media posts to your programs.

It’s also important to know that your avatar will most likely change over time. That’s great — go with it and let it evolve as you evolve as a Health Coach!
